My Little Loves

There’s a song we sing when the baby is crying. It goes like this:

Little Lawson Love, Mommy loves you

Little Lawson Love, Daddy loves you

Little Lawson Love, Lynnie loves you

Little Lawson Love, Gibby loves you

Little Lawson Love, we all love you

Yes, we do

I’ve sung some version of this song with each of my children as babies, and it’s a little bit sad to think that this might be the last time I’ll hold a tiny one in my arms and hush his tears with this song.

Little ones don’t stay babies for very long. Lynnie is almost a kindergartener. Gib is definitely a full-on preschooler. And even Baby Lawson isn’t a newborn anymore. The way we show our love to each other will undoubtedly change as they get older, but I pray that we will always find a way to help them see how much we love them. Especially when they are tired, or hurt, or scared.

This song isn’t just about helping calm their tears now. It’s about giving them the peace of knowing that I love them. That their Daddy loves them. And that our family is a place where they will always find the strength and support they need.
